Health Claims Bureau Limited Announces Alliance with Reed Group, Ltd.

Health Claims Bureau Ltd is delighted to announce the formation of a strategic alliance with Reed Group Ltd., publisher of The Medical Disability Advisor (MDA) guidelines and a global leader in return-to-work and disability management products and services. This alliance will enhance Reed Group’s ability to provide guidelines and service support to shared clients in this region.

Published since 1991, the MDA has been selected as the preferred disability duration reference by more than 22,000 users representing multinational employers, insurance carriers, administrators, healthcare providers, and government agencies in more than 30 countries. Now with HCB’s regional representation in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland, Reed Group is better able to fully educate and support prospective clients in this region.

The MDA guidelines provide evidence-based, objective expectancy figures for normal recovery from medical conditions, injuries and procedures in its renowned duration tables. Only the MDA guidelines are based on observed normative case data from more than five million case records. The Fifth Edition provides information on more than 10,000 medical codes representing the most common injuries and illnesses of working people.

Use of The Medical Disability Advisor does not replace the need for consulting medical opinion and treatment by a physician for every case, but can assist in establishing a framework for dialogue among all involved parties (employee, employer, provider, payer, etc.) to help ensure consistent and fair treatment for all injured and ill workers.

The Medical Disability Advisor is the world’s most widely used information resource for disability duration information. By providing proprietary evidence-based disability duration data, along with comprehensive treatment and rehabilitation information developed by Reed Group’s Medical Advisory Board, users are assured of the most current and complete fact-based information for healthy and timely return-to-work outcomes.

2007 Dynamics of Disability Seminar

HCB were the only UK delegates to attend the Dynamics of Disability Seminar in the USA in early March. The annual seminar has become recognised as the leading disability insurance event in the USA. It is clear that the US market faces many of the same challenges and opportunities as the UK market, particularly in the area of raising public awareness of the risk of long-term disability before retirement age and the financial consequences.

US insurers also face the same challenges when it comes to the management of claims and rehabilitation. We came accross a number of interesting services available in the USA including: -
evidence based reviews of medical aspects of claims by expert doctors who will provide an analysis and recommendations; and
evidence based disability duration guidelines available on paper, CDRom or online.
These services are widely used in the USA and can be available to UK insurers at reasonable cost.

If any of our clients would like to share the information we gathered in the USA we would be more than happy to arrange a meeting to discuss our findings further.

Annuity Portfolio Reviews

Checking on the survival of annuitants can become very routine with only the minimal checking of returned documentation. Continuing to pay annuities when the annuitant has died can be very expensive. Health Claims Bureau can arrange for an Inspector to visit your annuitants, or a block of your annuitants, to meet them and to obtain a Certificate of Existence. This is an effective way of confirming that annuitants remain alive and the service is available in the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland.
